CAD at ASDA.

Our Macro team has been working closely with one of the UK’s largest retail giants, spearheading transformative departmental reflows in alignment with the company’s updated principles.

Under the leadership of Michael Bewley, our team acclimated themselves to ASDA’s existing store-planning software, leveraging a diverse array of advanced AutoCAD tools. Their discovery phase involved an in-depth analysis of the data and store plan comparison to highlight any inefficiencies or issues so as not to impact additional stores and ensure plans that are submitted are accurate and require no revision.  Using the provided range data, our team efficiently executed over 100 store plans, tailoring them to conform to new operational flows and adjacency principles.

Upon the successful completion of the Chilled project, the teams expertise was sought after for the next departmental reflow, focusing on the Impulse and Core Grocery department. Our team size was expanded to accommodate the extended scope, encompassing over 200 plans. The ultimate aim was to align the stores accurately to the new principles, flows and adjacencies, and ensure that customers received the best range in-store. Following the completion of Impulse and Core Grocery, the next project that OSP worked on was a reflow of another major department. We supported ASDA with over 300 plans over 20 days, maintaining the high standards for their customers.

For these projects we began by working in house with the Store Planning and Range teams at Asda to ensure that when we returned to remote working we had all the information required and had worked through any issues at the start of the projects rather than having to address them later on. This proactive approach facilitated a seamless working relationship, enabling us to engage in productive discussions and swiftly resolve any issues that may have arisen during the implementation of new operational flows and principles within existing store plans. This meticulous working process highlights the full potential of OSP space planners, who not only produce CAD plans but also conduct in-depth space and range data analysis to proactively identify and address any potential issues before the projects gain momentum.

Senior Project Manager, Michael Bewley reflects: “It has been great to provide our store planning support in these projects with Asda, both in-house and remotely, and this has helped to build a brilliant working relationship. Each project has had its own complexities in regards to applying the new principles to each store. As is the way in retail, a one size fits all approach doesn’t apply and that is where OSP can support with our experience in store planning for different retailers and providing solutions and proposals to achieve the best customer offer.’’
